As some of you know, I’m an avid walker and early riser. After reading three newspapers and drinking three cups of coffee, I change things up with a four-mile walk in the early morning. As the world around me wakes, I reflect and listen to a wide range of music—sometimes even dancing a little when a good song comes on!

On these walks, I think about our country and community, including the many conversations I’ve had with fellow Democrats while canvassing for candidates I’ve supported. Too many of our neighbors feel discouraged and hesitant to stand up for Democratic ideals. I’m running for those who have lost faith in our democratic process, to restore pride in being a Democrat, and to show that you don’t need to come from a political dynasty named Bush, Trump, or Carlucci to seek public office.

Like many of my progressive friends, I have been frustrated by the shortage of Democratic candidates willing to run for local office. For the past year, I regularly checked the Supervisor of Elections website to see whether a Democrat had entered the race for the district 5 City Council seat. In the 12 years we have lived in District 5, we have never had a Democrat on the ballot. I finally decided that I would be the first Democrat in 20 years to be on the ballot in District 5.

As I have told many folks as I canvas our neighborhoods I may not get elected but hopefully next election cycle a better known, younger, and better financed Democrat will run and get elected!! We MUST make our presence felt in the community and take back control of our City.

I am still approximately 55 petition signatures short, if you live in District 5 please reach out to me and I will bring a Petition to you for your signature.

Sincerely,

Neighbor Scott Sprague
