Close to 150 Jacksonville-area residents gathered last Friday morning at St. Johns Town Center for a May Day rally which ran from 10 to 11:30 a.m., and drew participants united around the 'No Work, No School, No Shopping' initiative — a call for economic non-cooperation in support of workers, teachers, and families.

"Today’s crowd at the St. Johns Town Center has gathered to highlight how Gov. Ron DeSantis and the Republican majority in the Florida Legislature have made it increasingly difficult for teachers, municipal workers, nurses, transit employees, and other public-sector workers to organize for fair wages, benefits, and working conditions that ultimately benefit everyone.” said Gloria Einstein, member of Indivisible Mandarin leadership.
“These hardworking people—not billionaires—are the backbone of our communities, and today's May Day rally is an opportunity to demonstrate how critical they are to keeping our country running smoothly.”

Organized by Indivisible Mandarin, Indivisible Southside, Indivisible Jax Riverside, Indivisible Jax Springfield, Beaches Activists Movement, 50501 Vets, 50501 NE Florida, North Florida Central Labor Council, Neptune Beach Coalition, and Duval Dems, the rally was part of a nationwide day of action centered on common-sense demands: fair taxation that prioritizes families over billionaires, an end to unchecked ICE enforcement and private armies, expanded voting rights, and opposition to corporate overreach.
Thanks to all who showed up in support of our workers and/or boycotted work, school or shopping!
