Writing postcards is a community builder!

Updated: Feb 15, 2025

By: An IM member who loves writing postcards!

I love feeling like I'm participating in our democracy! We usually write out postcards for candidates, issues, or to tell folks it's time to vote. As Indivisible Mandarin often has postcard writing parties, we talk, write, share stamps, and stories - all which builds community with other like-minded members and friends. These postcards reach people in interesting places and sometimes we laugh over some of the crazy street names!

And, best of all, they have an impact! The relevance of sending postcards can be attributed to their personal touch:

  • A postcard in the mailbox often feels more personal than an email in the inbox.

  • Also, postcards serve as a tangible reminder of a candidate. Unlike digital ads that disappear once scrolled past, postcards can linger, reinforcing the campaign message.

  • Lastly, their cost-effectiveness makes them an attractive option for campaigns of all sizes.

Because of the information on these cards, people know what's on the ballot, why they should vote for/against it, when and where to vote - and they actually go out and vote!! That last is the best part. They vote.
